My Book Nook

Book Nook l LadyD Books
One of the most comfortable stuffed chairs in my great room is where you'll find me! Even though the winters are mild here in sunny California, this chair calls me to sit awhile and ponder over a great book. It is oh so heavenly when we do get some rain. Then with a roaring fire going, I'm soon drawn into a good book. Perhaps I'll have a look at Classic Poems... Anyways, here is a peek at a delightful book nook of mine.

Now, one good thing about an overly stuffed armchair is that there's room for a few more to sit comfortably. A perfect chair for those two wonderful Grandsons of mine. When I am soaking up quiet time just for myself, an occasional visit from my cat Jasmine is always a welcomed site! So, there you have it, the scoop on the showing of my 1st book nook, stripes and all!

You'll definitely want to stop by Amy's blog. I was passing by and noticed her invite to share my book nook with you. Thanks, Amy!

A Lark in the Ark

A Lark in the Ark

My Grandsons love lap books, board books and books with flaps!

A Lark in the Ark is a loopy lift-the-flap book (with over 25 flaps!)
Written by Peter Bently; Illustrated by Lynne Chapman
Age Range 2-5

This book has been nominated by children across the country, that is in the top ten books published in 2008, chosen by them! This is the only national book award in the UK that is voted on entirely by children.

In this humorous picture book, a familiar story is given an imaginative twist. The constant rain is making everyone on board the ark a little bored, so Noah suggests a game of hide-and-seek to have some fun. Where will they hide? Will they dare to hide in the only room which says NO ANIMALS? Our young testers relished lifting the flaps to reveal wacky comments including ‘llamas in pajamas’ and ‘owls in towels’. The last spread provides a final surprise – a fold out story page which reveals all the animals having lots of fun on the ark. A wonderful interactive story!

Llamas in pyjamas and baboons in pink pantaloons!

Christian Children's Book- Zip, Burp and Hula

Zip, Burp and Hula
Christian Children's Book, Zip Burp and Hula, Delights Children of all Ages

I have found a great paperback book for $10.95

Delightful Children's Book Zip Burp & Hula is Perfect Summertime Reading

"Most of a child’s fondest memories happen now. It’s summertime, school is out, which gives kids hours and hours of time to play and do what they enjoy doing most. It’s also the perfect time to instill a love of reading. With no stress of school assignments, children can finally sit back and enjoy a good book. And one excellent choice is Zip, Burp, and Hula, with the newly released matching coloring book and paint by number book."
http://www.sbwire.com/news/view/19747

"Kids today need more books with good inspirational messages and Christian values. Zip, Burp, and Hula is just that book. A beautifully illustrated book with a great message and matching coloring book and paint by number book to get kids involved even more.
Zip, Burp and Hula sparks the imagination and helps develop reading and coloring skills. The delightful 32-page educational tale helps children understand that it is sometimes hard to be yourself; but with the help of a few wonderful friends, it can be done. It’s beautifully illustrated and perfect for beginner readers at the 1st-grade level. The colorful pictures also make it the perfect bedtime story that kids will be asked to be read over and over again.

The story takes place when the main character, a Chameleon, tries to discover who he truly is. Many children will be able to relate to that same concept as they grow older and experience all the many challenges of childhood. Zip goes out on an adventure to discover himself and his purpose in life. He befriends a zippy dragonfly, a burping bullfrog, three dancing wasps, and a wise moth. The Chameleon looks to his loving friends and the adventures begin as together they search for the answers. You grow fond of the characters and children delight when Zip finally figures out a way to do what he was supposed to do and change colors. It also has a Christian theme, whereby they seek God’s support in facing these challenging movements.

Author, Cindy Johnston, has written several children’s books. Johnston had two books selected in the top four finalists in the Heartland Writer’s Conference in 2000, with Zip, Burp, and Hula awarded second place.

Zip Burp and Hula is published by Virtual Word Publishing, http://www.virtualwordpublishing.com and available at the publisher’s website, Amazon, and www.kidsbooksandmore. Discounts are available for schools, churches, etc."

Board Books for Babies- Dinosaur Roar

Dinosaur Roar!
Why I Like This

This simple rhyming text will tickle the fancy of young dinosaur lovers at the same time that it introduces opposites: "Dinosaur roar, dinosaur squeak, dinosaur fierce, dinosaur meek..." And what do the colorful, parading creatures sound like when eating their lunch? Why, "gobble, gobble, nibble, nibble, munch, munch, scrunch," of course!

Ages 0-3.

But don't take my word for it. Here's what David Swanson has to say:

"It's short but does a lot!

Each spread features a simple comparison of 2 different dinosaurs. It's a simple book of opposites that feature vibrant water color illustrations that are wonderfully painted to illustrate the comparison concepts.

"Dinosaur clean, dinosaur slimy." "Dinosaur fit, dinosaur fat." "Dinosaur short or very very long." spiky / lumpy etc.etc. It rhymes comfortably throughout. I've taken my examples out of order. But that's the idea of comparing opposites.

The fierce dinosaur is smaller than the meek one which is huge! That's an interesting juxtaposition, much like in real life!

I love it for the simple comparison of opposites with fun visuals!"

Publisher Notes: Dinosaur Roar!

* Dinosaurs of every shape and size race, roar, and stomp through this colorful book of opposites. And where are all these silly-looking creatures off to? A dinosaur picnic, of course! These prehistoric pranksters and the simple, playful rhymes that accompany them will delight children everywhere. Dinosaur Roar! is an entertaining way to introduce preschoolers to the concept of opposites.

Dinosaurs on my piano
My Grandsons have plastic dinosaurs to play with and how they love them! You know, pretend roaring and fighting... oh my! And then, do you remember the movie Land Before Time? My favorite song, If We Hold On Together, is played so beautifully on piano.
