The Call To Follow Jesus: Kim Laliberte l LadyD Books

 Amazon Snippet

The Call to Follow Jesus is a manual for kingdom living. This interactive book features nine weeks of looking into the life and times of Jesus by going through the Gospel of Mark verse by verse. In it you gain an understanding of how Jesus called, taught, led and changed His disciples. How they learned to "see" and "hear" transformed them into world-changers. It is the same process God uses in our lives today. Written as a companion for sermon study groups, small groups, women's studies or as a stand alone handbook and guide through the Gospel of Mark, this book will change you. This study explores topics such as Getting in touch with the gift of pain; The me I don't want to see; Faith concealed, revealed and rewarded; and When seeing malfunctions: Truth twisting.

The Friday 56

"But I also trust you've gathered the cloak of hope around you as you have seen Who has the power over evil; Who has the power to save; Who has the power to change us from the inside out." -- Kim Laliberte

My Review

An engaging study, verse by verse you'll gain new insights into the Gospel of Mark. A fresh approach from a lawyer's perspective, the author asks many thought-provoking questions that will cause the reader to dig deeper and find new understanding in God's word. I especially like the layout of the book. There are 9 Chapters with each one yielding a 5 day approach, along with an hour of daily homework (more or less) in writing out your newly discovered answers.

The Background Information provides cultural insights, while The Disciple's Perspective offers clues on what Christ's disciples experienced. You will be enriched by the Historical Quotes, plus the Parallel Passages offer more clarity on scripture. Getting to the Heart of the Matter is my favorite part of the study, so rich in personal application. This is a wonderful series for everyone and you will not be disappointed. I highly recommend this one for study groups, women's studies and a personal study that will greatly impact your life, causing you to be a contagious Christian!

5/5 stars!

Personal Note

I had the privilege of getting to know the author over a period of nine weeks at my home church.  Kim is a bright light in the community. Along with being an excellent speaker,  I  found Kim to be kind and loving, sensitive and gracious, and a strong encourager. I appreciate her labor of love from The Series Kingdom Living In A Twisted World. You ask, what golden nugget did I receive? Well, to 're-frame the lie, trust the word and hold on to the rope of hope. I'm going to keep pedaling, knowing God is always with me and enjoy the view!

 Tomahawk Fire: Camp Pendleton

Seven years ago I was forced to evacuate because our home was surrounded by three fires. As you probably heard on the news, there were about 9-10 fires going on around San Diego County last week. This time, although it was an extremely stressful day, we were fortunate in that we didn't have to leave our home. I wanted to share with my readers a look at what was rapidly approaching our ranch that terrible, smokey day. The winds were continually changing and the temperatures were so hot with highs around 100+ degrees. We are so thankful and grateful that our home is still here and that our family nearby is safe. Our hearts are hurting for all those who have suffered such loss... May your hearts be comforted and our prayers are with you. Thanks to family and friends; our community for their support and prayers, too.

Have you ever experienced an evacuation and if so, what did you take with you? I grabbed all our photos, important papers and musical instruments. Here is a resource I found online, Evacuating List

Wouldn't Take Nothing For My Journey Now

Book Cover: Wouldn't Take Nothing For My Journey Now

 The Friday 56

"If I am comfortable inside my skin, I have the ability to make other people comfortable inside their skins although their feelings are not my primary reason for making my fashion choice."  -- Maya Angelou
I liked reading this excerpt so much that I thought I would continue along with the author's thoughts..
Quotes from Wouldn't Take Nothing for My Journey Now (Paperback) by Maya Angelou

child wearing her hair up in a new style: LadyD Books

"If I feel good inside my skin and clothes, I am thus free to allow my body its sway, its natural grace, its natural gesture. Then I am so comfortable that whatever I wear looks good on me even to the external fashion arbiters."
child holding a teddy bear: LadyD Books

"Dress is important to mention because many people are impressed by powerful dictates on what is right and proper to wear. Those decisions made by others and sometimes at their convenience are not truly meant to make life better or finer or more graceful or more gracious. Many times they stem from greed, insensitivity, and the need for control."

"I have been in the company, not long to be sure, but in company hwere a purveyor of taste will look at a woman or man who enters a room and will say with a sneer, That was last year's jacket." As hastily as possible, I leave that company, but not before I record the snide attitude which has nothing to do with the beauty or effectiveness of the garment, but rather gives the speaker a moment's sense of superiority at, of course, someone else's expense."

"Seek the fashion which truly fits and befits you. You will always be in fashion if you are true to yourself. You might, of course, rightly wear that style which is emblazoned on the pages of the fashion magazines of the day, or you might not."
granddaughter playing dress up: LadyD Books

"The statement "Clothes make the man" should be looked at, reexamined, and in fact re-evaluated. Clothes can make the man or woman look silly and foppish and foolish. Try rather to be so much yourself that the clothes you choose increase your naturalness and grace."

Red-tailed Hawks Love My Place

LadyD Books: Red-tailed Hawk

There is no denying that red-tailed hawks are birds of prey but many of us in our area find it fascinating to watch them turn sweeping circles in the air on their broad, rounded wings.

A pair of hawks: LadyD Books

Our neighbors have some beautiful Eucalyptus trees nearby and you can see that this duo of red-tailed hawks seem to survey the countryside from their perfect view.

When hawks come to rest, they like to be a minimum of 10 to 15 feet off the ground. In building nests, they value a solid foundation. Their nest is usually in the crotch of a large tree with a commanding view. I have seen these nests in eucalyptus and sycamore trees. I have read that some use the same nest every year, renewing the evergreen sprigs and leaves in the inner lining.

Hawk wings extended for flight: LadyD Books

I think the reason the birds favor the area is because they are fond of open areas and farmland, in addition to urban settings. Perched high on a tree or telephone pole, the keen-eyed hawk observes and waits patiently for its food.

According to National Geographic, the average life span of a red-tailed hawk in the wild can be 21 years! The color of this variety of hawk is intriguing, as there are 14 recognized subspecies.

There he goes! It seems their most popular targets are rabbits and squirrels in our region.

Mom and Me

my mom and me: LadyD Books

Here I am with my mother when I was about 3 years old. Love you mom! I'll see you again...

Currently, LadyD Books is reading a signed copy of Grand-Loving (Making Memories with Your Grandchildren) by Sue Johnson.

The Friday 56

"Can your faraway little one remember the layout of your house? Try this fun homemade flannel-board puzzle."

It's a "Houzzle"?

It's not only a challenging game but also a unique way to remember experiences they've had with you at your home.

Ages: Three to eight years

You'll Need to Send

  • A layout of your house that you draw on interfacing material and cut into rooms.
Here's How

  • Draw the floor plan of your home on the interfacing.
  • Cut each room out and send it in an envelope for your grandchild to reassemble.
  • You can also send pretend furniture made from flannel or remnant interfacing so your "interior designer" can play "Grandma and Grandpa's house."
  • While challenging your grandchild's memory, you'll also be refreshing her memories of visits to your home.

Happy Mother's Day to all the ladies!

Large cloud formation over the mountains: LadyD Books

Spring has arrived in full bloom, bringing some interesting weather to our parts of North County. With strong, warm winds and hot temperatures in the 90's, we've seen some amazing sunrises and cloud formations. Photos for Skywatch Friday How is it where you are?

Hana Highway
I have been on Maui's winding and water fall-filled Hana Highway. It is so well worth the drive to see the lush side of the island! I miss this beautiful place but I am always playing Hawaiian music in my home. The Plumeria blooms are delightful to see, as well as swimming with the turtles! I own this book and yes, we took it with us to experience the author's suggested research.

The Friday 56

"Like the highway past Hana along the bottom of Haleaka, the drive along the top of West Maui suffers from a long out-of-date reputation."

About The Book

"Maui is the undisputed playground of Hawaii. No other island has the range of activities and scenery available to you here. There's almost nothing you can't do on Maui. Hike in pristine rain forests, snorkel in an extinct crater, coast a bicycle 10,000 feet down a volcano, walk along miles of beaches, frolic under a waterfall, dive into a natural freshwater pool, lie on a black or even red sand beach, or sip a drink as the sun sets over nearby islands. Whatever fantasy you have, Maui is bound to deliver."

Good news! I am thrilled to announce that LadyD Books won the April 100+ Book Challenge. A warm thank you to Freda @ http://fredasvoice.blogspot.com I am the proud owner of Five Little Monkeys (ebook)! My grandkids are sure to go bananas over this one!
