A Very Special House by Ruth Krauss

Hope your March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb. Also, while you're at it, beware the Ides of March and March Madness... These hand puppets for children are wonderful, so very life-like!

I just finished reading A Very Special House, so very funny and a Caldecott Honor Book, by the author of A Hole Is To Dig, The Carrot Seed, Bears, and The Happy Day. I love Ruth's style of writing and this great idea she had to make up a very special house where you can do all the things you can't do in a regular house. And A very Special House is a book about that house.

The rhymes are witty and entertaining. The simple illustrations by Maurice Sendak are a treasure for sure. I selected this great children's book, A Very Special House, to share with you on March 1st because of Sendak's drawing of the "chair chompin' lion."

"I know a house- it's not a squirrel house it's not a donkey house -it's not a house you'd see- and it's not in any street and it's not in any road- oh it's just a house for me Me ME."

Review

Most, most special indeed! What fun! Sheer nonsense in text and pictures, the inimitable drawings of Mr. Sendak. -- Saturday Review
