About the Author

Rhonda Gowler Green remembers when she started writing - when her four kids all had chicken pox at the same time. It was a very bad week! To keep her sanity, she started writing stories. And she hasn't stopped. Rhonda lives in West Bloomfield, Michigan, with her handsome husband, Gary.

Santiago Cohen has illustrated a variety of projects, from HBO children's specials that have won Emmy and Peabody awards, to episodes of Troubles the Cat for Cartoon Network, as well as children's books for Putnam, Golden Books, and Houghton Mifflin. Santiago lives in Hoboken, NJ with his wife, children, and numerous pets.

Book Review

This beautiful picture book retells Jesus' parable of the lost sheep found in Luke 15:3-4. It has wonderful, warm pastel artwork and delightful rhyme text. Hearts of young children for ages 4-8 will understand the simple message of a loving shepherd realizing that one of his sheep is missing and leaves the 99 sheep to look for it. This is a fun and engaging book with adorable sheep, attractive shepherd robes, and peaceful pasture settings. I especially like that the heartfelt theme of the story comforts and reassures little ones that they are loved by Jesus, the true and faithful shepherd.

I realize this is a picture book with 32 pages but I wanted to participate in this popular book meme. Of course, my favorite line in One Lost Sheep is found on the very last page:

Like that shepherd, God above keeps us in his boundless love.

The Lord God is our shepherd too, watching over... me and you.

Two black birds standing on a rock: LadyD Books

Some time ago I discovered a pair of blackbirds at the San Diego Safari Animal Park as I scrambled up the path just in time. I wish I knew something about them... like, where are they from? What type of bird are these guys? Next time for sure, I'll look at the signs and jot down some notes. For now, they will be called, "Two birds standing on a rock."

Coming out of the jungle scene above and walking along a garden path, I came across these two birds down by the water. I wondered if their origins were from the coast, by the beach or perhaps inland. Again I have no reference as to what kind of bird they are. Hence, their name is "Two birds hunting by the stream."

This bird indeed looks like he is missing something obvious. Perhaps he's looking for minnows.

Finally, there was a remarkable number of black birds on this little island with no names, of course.

Well, for today's post I sincerely hope you can help me out with the proper bird names. As my bird watching hobby begins, I'll try to do better at reporting and labeling with my bird book in hand!
